very simple day-to-night transition item.
elegant, simplistic, yet a very nice and unique touch to an outfit.
tones down an overly formal or dressy piece but emphasizes it's impact.
i have a thing for color schemes, and dressing in tones of -insertcolorhere-. so i really like complimentary(in terms of color) blazers.
also, i really like items that are "boyfriend fit," but i hate pants in general, specifically jeans. boyfriend fit clothes tend to work on people with slimmer frames who are of a normal height. the most common item is a jean that is baggy, possibly has a dropped crotch, sits low on the hips, and the owner tends to fold the cuff. well folding the cuff, if you are short, actually makes you look shorter. so no.
but anyway, loose fitting blazers/jackets with sleeves you can roll up to your elbows add the most impeccable splash of masculinity to a flirty sexy mini-dress. again, the blazer should not take away attention from the dress but add to it.
we are not talking about pulling out the blazer you wear to job interviews and throwing it on top of any old dress. blazers with dresses, especially mini dresses, must end below the hip. but all of this is generally my opinion. short blazers would not work with dresses in the same way.

i dont know what designer makes anything in the first picture, the second picture is sort of ew, and the third picture is from stella mccartney S2009RTW. loved her usage of tan and beige, mixture of suits, blazers, swimsuits, etc.

this is the dress with blazer on the runway
the first picture, i know of a dress that is much cheaper and looks almost exactly like that. polka dots instead of jagged edged spots though. large polka dots. and dark tulle pouffing up the dress. it's very pretty, affordable alternative.
anyway. dress with blazer. lengthens your figure, slims you down, interesting mix of formal and casual. love love love.
oh yes. add more interest by introducing a shimmering decolletage or having a funky necklace that pulls the look together.
